‘Unwholesome drink’ lands 11 of a family in hospital

LAYYAH: Eleven members of a family were hospitalised on Tuesday allegedly after consuming unwholesome lasi (a local drink made from milk or yogurt).

Muhammad Baksh, 55, a resident of 139-TDA village, his wife Zainab, sons Altaf, Shahbaz, Muhammad Husain and grandson Imtiaz, daughters Naureen Bibi and Meher Bibi and granddaughters Bismah, Mehwish and Areeba were shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital by the Rescue 1122 service with nausea in semi-conscious state.

Quoting neighbours, Rescue officials said all of them drank lasi on Monday night and fell asleep.

The neighbours were alarmed when none of them woke up till 11am. When they woke them up, they felt dizzy and started vomiting. Rescue officials were called who shifted them to hospital.

DHQ Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Bashir Ahmed said the condition of the patients was stable after they were provided necessary treatment.

“We have taken samples from their stomachs which have been sent to forensic lab for tests,” he added.
