Evening courts

WITH reference to the editorial titled ‘Evening courts’ (April 23), it is not a matter of surprise that our courts are over-burdened and many cases are left pending. This is due to the busy traffic in courts and long, tiresome judicial processes. Some of the public, despite knowing that they can avail justice from the current judicial system, abhor taking part in the judicial process.

Keeping in mind these hardships, evening courts offer a ray of hope. The public will appreciate the speedy dispensation of justice, and judges will appreciate the relief from their exhausting workloads. This way, the burden on courts can be lessened and the rule of law can be upheld in society.

One thing that the legislators of this bill need to keep in mind is that it should be framed in such a way that there is no discrimination between ordinary (or day) courts and evening courts. To run both courts parallel to each other, it is necessary that the two should have the same standard.
