So What stuns favourite to annex Live Wire Cup

KARACHI: Making amends of her last defeat, rank outsider four-year-old chestnut filly So What lowered the colours of favourite four-year-old bay colt Luck Pass to lift The Live Wire Cup in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

Beaten by Tania by five-and-a-half lengths in the April two meeting, So What atoned to the loss by registering an impressive five-length victory under its regular rider Mohammad Sajjad in the scale order I, II and III combined race run over five furlongs.

Owned by KRC steward Irfan Mehdi and trained by Mohammad Hanif, So What clocked one minute 3 2/5 seconds for the honours as the field was reduced to half-a-dozen horses following withdrawal of English Vinglish before the race.

Doctor was placed third beaten by three-and-a-half lengths while colt Fantastic Game completed the frame further 10 lengths away.

The owner and trainer pair of Mehdi and Hanif completed a back-to-back double after rider Mohammad Manzoor piloted fancied five-year-old mare Satisfy home by a length-and-a-quarter in the next race.

In a late burst, fast chasing Satisfy came from behind to push mare Sea Gold to second place besides making it two victories on the trot.

Sonia Again and Fast Departure followed the two in same order.

At the outset, unknown pedigree bay mare Super Star edged chestnut horse Race by distance to annex the opening race.

Sweet Sereena was placed third while Salam Kashmir completed the frame.

The trend continued in the next race as public fancy bay horse Sayeen Jee coasted to an exciting eight-length win over filly Cherish.

Rider Mohammad Manzoor excelled among his cadre with a brace of winners in Sayeen Jee and Satisfy.
