Jufelhurst School demolition suspects remanded

KARACHI: A judicial magistrate remanded on Monday a suspended SHO and three other officials to prison and also dismissed their bail applications in a case regarding the demolition of a heritage building in Soldier Bazaar.

The suspended SHO Soldier Bazaar Irshad Soomro, ASI Hakim Ali, mukhtiarkar Ahmed Memon and city surveyor Ghulam Fareed Chauhan along with some other suspects have been booked for their alleged role in the demolition of a British-era building, located inside Jufelhurst School in Soldier Bazaar, on the night of April 8.

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), which was tasked with the investigation of the case, reproduced the suspects after the end of their three-day physical remand.

The suspects, through their counsel, also moved bail applications and after hearing arguments from both sides, a judicial magistrate (East) dismissed the applications and also sent them to prison on judicial remand.

Couple remanded

A judicial magistrate remanded on Monday a couple in police custody in a case pertaining to the murder of a child.

Aziz and his wife Sara have been booked for allegedly abducting and killing their eight-year-old neighbour Shaukat. Police said that the couple allegedly kidnapped the child on April 11 within the limits of Sukkan police station after the female suspect had a dispute with the mother of the victim. The couple dumped the boy near a drain in Ibrahim Haideri police limits after killing him.

Police produced them before a judicial magistrate (Malir) and sought their custody for questioning. The court handed them over to police on three-day physical remand.

Police on Monday also submitted an interim charge sheet before a judicial magistrate in a case pertaining to the kidnapping of a newborn baby from a government hospital.

Khan Mohammad, Masihullah, Juma Khan, Sarwar, Mohammad Anwar, Umar, Rozi Khan, Ms Musarrat Anwar Khan, Ms Bipu, Nadia and Bano Gul have been booked for allegedly selling the baby twice after kidnapping him from the Qatar Hospital in Orangi Town on March 22.
