Peshawar bards praise advent of spring

PESHAWAR: Senior Pashto, Hindko and Urdu poets gathered at an event to celebrate arrival of the spring season through their beautiful poetic pieces.

Peshawar chapter of Abasin Arts Council (AAC) conducted the event at its hall here on Tuesday. Poets recalled how spring season had helped people refreshed their fond memories and reconnected themselves to the enchanting natural world. Prof Dawar Khan Daud chaired the function while Ismail Awan was chief guest on the occasion. Around 11 Pashto, 18 Hindko and 12 Urdu poets took part at the trilingual poetry session.

Abasin Arts Council honorary secretary Mushtaq Shabab in his opening remarks said that poets and writers praised the beauty of nature in all its manifestations. He said that poets had always drawn inspiration from seasons, especially spring because of its deep pleasant impact on human psyche and environment at large.

“Spring season in fact gives us hope and energy to bear hardships in life. We get reconnected to nature through different hues and colours of the spring season,” said Mr Shabab. He said that poets should share their good feelings and emotions with people.

Prof Nazeer Tabassum pointed out that most often poets whittled complaints against the spring season in their poetry. He said that few poets viewed spring as rival of their beloved yet others appreciated its charm and magical spell.

“We, the poets being humble souls, can only smith words to either depreciate or appreciate things around us. Why not say a few good words in praise of the spring as it enhances our aesthetic sense and boosts positivity level,” said Mr Tabassum. He added that spring season should be celebrated to send out message of peace to the world.

Kulsoomzeb, chief of Women Writers Forum (WWF), said on the occasion that getting together of poets at such an event sent a positive message to people to think positive for the society.

She said that spring mushaira was a beautiful event as it brought them together to praise the pleasant effects of the season. “Spring season is a symbol of rebirth and togetherness. Poets speaking different languages are here to share their sublime thoughts and creative images,” she added.

Prof Hasaam Hur, Farooq Jan Babar Azad, Malik Arshad Hussain, Laiqzada Laiq, Prof Abaseen Yousafzai, Bushra Farrukh, Sameena Qadir, Prof Izharullah Izhar and Prof Owais Qarni recited their thought provoking poetic pieces and received appreciation from the participants.
