PESHAWAR: Pakistan Peoples Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has approved names of new office-bearers for Peshawar division and various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and asked them to take charge of their responsibilities.

Former provincial minister Liaquat Shabab has been appointed party’s Peshawar division president, Ibrar Nahqai general secretary and Gohar Daudzai information secretary.

For Peshawar district, Malik Saeed has been named as president, Misbahuddin general secretary and Syed Adil Shah information secretary. Office-bearers for Peshawar city are yet to be announced.

For Nowshera district, PPP has appointed Mian Yahya Shah as president, Iftikhar Ali Shah general secretary and Raza Saeed Babar information secretary. A party source said that the reorganisation process in four districts, including Mardan, Charsadda, Kohat and Karak, would take some time due to rifts among the workers.

The top leadership has announced office-bearers for the slots of president, general secretary and information secretary for different divisions and districts, while rest of the office-bearers would be appointed by the existing bodies.

It was learnt that PPP would start another phase for appointment of office-bearers at lower levels like sub-division, tehsil, ward, and union council in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa very soon.

A party source said that names of office-bearers for Peshawar city and Mardan had also been almost finalised, but the announcement was delayed as many people from rival political parties had joined PPP and they could play vital role in strengthening of the party if given assignments.

Party’s provincial vice-president Syed Ayub Shah said that the reorganisation process was in progress and it would be completed soon. He said that apparently there was no problem as most of the aspirants had been accommodated on different party slots.

Meanwhile, provincial president Mohammad Humayun Khan urged the newly-appointed office-bearers to take charge of their responsibilities and strengthen the party in their respective areas.

According to a statement, during his visit to different areas of southern districts, including Lakki Marwat and Bannu, the PPP leader asked the activists to focus on completion of reorganisation at low level to activate all workers.

“I am ready to visit the residence of any worker having reservations because the party is determined to get support of its people for next general elections,” he said.

The PPP leaders hoped that many senior leaders who had parted ways with the party would soon rejoin them. Mr Humayun was also accompanied by new Bannu division president Sher Azam Wazir and general secretary Nawaz Khan.
