Judicial reforms

THIS refers to the letter ‘Military justice’ (March 24) in which the writer states: “Our politicians have miserably failed to live up to their lofty promises and they must not malign the military for their sheer ineptitude.”

The fact is that our criminal procedure is Western, biased and outdated. We do not cater for modern-day terrorism. The techniques adopted by terrorists are based on loopholes in our justice system.

The writer rightly says that our judicial system needs revamping which our military courts have adopted and are successful. He says our politicians skillfully hide their own lack of will and interest in revamping the system.

Isn’t it sheer negligence to deliberately ignore the issue? Is it only the military which should fight the war on terror? Young officers and jawans are being martyred on a daily basis because of a lack of appropriate laws to curb terrorism.

We need laws that can meet justice for criminals, sympathisers and felicitators who are a part of the terror network. As retired Gen Raheel Sharif rightly said they look like us, live among us and work against us. We need laws that can eliminate them.
