Plea against new police uniform

LAHORE: A writ petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court challenging the new uniform for police force in Punjab.

Advocate Azhar Siddique stated in his petition that an extensive debate has started in police circles about the new olive green uniform for the force. He said the decision of the government to change police uniform instead of changing police culture in the province is irrational.

The petitioner also questioned the tender given to a textile mills for manufacturing the new uniform alleging that procurement rules were violated by the government.

He pleaded that the system could not afford such lavish expenses pertaining to the uniform while police stations lacked basic facilities, good buildings, infrastructure, utensils and other daily-use items.

He contended that instead of wasting precious public money on the uniform, the money should be spent on improving the police culture and basic facilities for the betterment of citizens of Punjab.

The lawyer asked the court to set aside the tender process for the new police uniform for being in violation of the rules.
