Seven killed in Dir, Chitral road accidents

UPPER DIR: Seven persons, including five Tablighee Jamaat members, were killed and six others injured in road accidents in Upper Dir and Chitral.

A non-custom paid car carrying members of Tablighee Jamaat was returning from Sahibabad Tablighee Markaz in Upper Dir when it skidded off the road and fell into the Panjkora River in Dislawar area on Thursday night.

Soon after the incident, the locals rushed to the spot and started search for the bodies. Late in the night, they retrieved a body from the river. The victim was identified as Suleman of Khall area.

The other three bodies were recovered on Friday. They were Johar Khan, Mehran Khan and Saeed Rehman, while search for the body of Abdullah continued.

Separately, two persons died and six others sustained serious injuries when the jeep they were travelling in plunged into a ravine while heading to Sufaid Arakari from Oveer Arakari village in Chitral on Friday afternoon.

Police sources told Dawn that the accident occurred when the driver lost control over the vehicle on a snow-covered road. The victims included the driver and a woman, wife of Mr Durrani.

The injured were shifted to the DHQ hospital where condition of three was stated to be precarious.
