Shots fired near BBIA runway

RAWALPINDI: A shooting occurred near the Benazir Bhutto International Airport runway on Wednesday when a security guard opened fire, and one of the bullets damaged the windscreen of a patrolling van.

Mujahid Ali Khan, a corporal involved in the firing who was deployed at the Tariq Shaheed post near the runway, was taken into custody. An inquiry into the incident has also been initiated to ascertain the circumstances around the shooting.

According to police and security sources, the incident took place at around 11am, when the corporal accidentally fired his gun five times. One of the shots hit the windscreen of a patrolling van parked near the runway.

Nobody was injured and no other damage was done on the airport premises.

As the gunshots rang out, security officials rushed to the scene and took the corporal into custody. Senior security officials later visited the scene of the firing and initiated an inquiry.
