Faiz poetry competition

LAHORE: A Faiz Ahmad Faiz poetry competition was held at the Government College University on Wednesday.

Students from 22 universities participated in the competition.

The University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore, secured the first position in Bait Bazi while the Punjab University and the University of Agriculture Faisalabad got second and third positions, respectively.

A Punjabi Mushaira was also held in which noted poets including Dr Sughra Sadaf, Younas Aqir, Murli Chohan, Asim Pehtayar and Habibullah presented their poetry.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah said the varsity was going to establish the Punjabi Department. He said the varsity would start admissions to BA (Hons) Punjabi this year.

“Students should also study Punjabi literature for their spiritual elevation. The world’s best mystic literature was available in Punjabi and noted Punjabi classical poets can be juxtaposed with the best poets of international languages,” he said.
