Action demanded against SHO for violence

PESHAWAR: Two residents of Swabi have demanded action the SHO of a local police station for subjecting them to violence and taking away their money.

During a news conference at the Peshawar Press Club on Monday, government contractor Riaz Anwar claimed that Kalo Khan police station SHO Haroon Khan had picked him up a month ago, kept him in illegal confinement for 12 days and released him after the intervention of the local elders.

He said the police had stripped him off and subjected him to severe violence for make them pay money.

“The police took away Rs55,000, one licensed pistol and two mobile phones. Only the pistol was returned at the time of my release,” he claimed.

The contractor insisted the SHO had warned him against reporting the matter to media or others.

He said he would sue the SHO for disgracing him.

During a separate news conference there, youngster Imran Ali alleged that SHO Haroon Khan had arrested him on March 15 in Panjpir area of Swabi before subjecting him to violence.

“I was released the next day after my mother came to the police station for lodging a kidnapping case against the police. The SHO snatched my computerised national identity card along with Rs60,000 cash and one mobile phone,” he claimed.

The young man also insisted the police took away furniture from his hujra.

He said though he had already moved the court of law for justice, the government should ensure strict action against the SHO.

When contacted, the SHO denied the allegations and declared the complainants drug peddlers.

He insisted he had enough drug trafficking evidence against complainants and would prove the culpability of the two in the court of law.
