Customs agents for waiver of demurrage

KARACHI: Customs agents on Monday urged terminal operators not to charge demurrage against those containers which could not leave the port because of Pak-Afghan border closure.

In a statement, Karachi Customs Agents Association (KCAA) General Secretary Wasiq Hussain Khan drew the attention of shipping lines and terminal operators towards the fact that the government had closed the Pakistan-Afghanistan border since Feb 16.

The closure of Pak-Afghan border has immensely hurt traders dealing in Afghan transit trade, the statement read.

The association urged that demurrage charges should be waived as it would be in the interest of all concerned and help clear congestion at the port.
