CTD claims arrest of LJ’s ‘camp commander’

SUKKUR: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), Sukkur, has claimed to have arrested a key commander of the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi (LJ) from Khairpur.

SSP Irfan Samoon of the Sukkur CTD told a press conference here on Monday that the arrested suspect, Shoaib Brohi, had been training militants in Afghanistan for an unspecified period of time.

“He is commander of the camp in Afghanistan where members of militant outfits banned in Pakistan are being provided training,” he said.

Acting on secret information about his presence in a house in Khairpur, a CTD team raided the place and arrested him, he said.

He said Shoaib Brohi belonged to the Hafeez Brohi and Maqsood Brohi group of the LJ. A resident of Shikarpur, Shoaib Brohi is involved in bomb blasts that had earlier taken place in Shikarpur and Jacobabad.

SSP Samoon claimed that Shoaib was also involved in the torching of Nato tankers near Shikarpur in 2010.

Literature concerning religious extremism was seized from him, he said, adding that the suspect was under interrogation.
