NAB returns recovered money to UoP, FDMA

PESHAWAR: National Accountability Bureau, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Director General Shahzad Saleem on Friday handed over two cheques worth Rs11.41 million to the University of Peshawar and FDMA after recovering the amount from accused persons in embezzlement cases.

A ceremony to this effect was held here.According to a statement, NAB had initiated an inquiry against the accused Imdadullah (BPS-22), director/in-charge of Institute of Chemical Sciences, UoP, for not entering cheques into the cash books.

It said these cheques were issued in the names of two officials, Arif Ismail and Mohammad Ali, and later were encashed by themselves.

The statement said the amount was drawn in various heads of accounts, including HEC, indigenous scholarships and private funds. The amount recovered thus was handed over as cheque of Rs3.88 million to Naveed Sardar, deputy treasurer, UoP by the NAB director general.

In another case, accused Inayatullah, agency coordinator for Fata Disaster Management Authority, in connivance with local elders of Bajaur Agency, bank officials and other FDMA officials, included fake/ineligible persons in the payment lists, thus paving the way for embezzling millions of rupees meant for the poor and war affected people of Bajaur.

The amount recovered was also handed over as a cheque of Rs7.53 million to Mohammad Riaz, director (admin), FDMA.
