KOHAT: Water Supply and Sanitation Company (WSSC), Kohat, chief executive Arif Rauf has said that all complaints of the local people will be resolved soon after the induction of remaining 50 per cent machinery.

He said that at present 70 sweepers transferred from the tehsil municipal administration to WSSC were working, while phase-wise hiring of 500 more would start soon. He was speaking at a function in Junglekhel town where a cleanliness drive was inaugurated by MPA Ziaullah Bangash on Tuesday.

He said that an old garbage dump had been removed from the Junglekhel-OTS Road. WSSC chairman Fazal Kareem, district councillor Karamat Shah, sanitation staff and TMA officials were also present on the occasion.

Official says WSSC to hire 500 more sweepers

The MPA said that the people should start cleanliness from their homes and dispose of garbage in dustbins. He said that they should discharge their religious and civic responsibility to keep the city clean.

Mr Rauf said that they had given 30 per cent increase in salaries to the staff hired from TMA. He said that they would ensure quick response to public complaints, as all the needed machinery would be available within a month. He said that they needed 100 open vans for collecting waste from mohallahs and one mechanical sweeper.

TEACHERS DEMAND: The All Tribal Areas Teachers’ Association has demanded of the chairman Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Kohat, to assign them duties in the annual 9th and 10th grade examinations.

Talking to media persons on Tuesday, the association’s office-bearers from FR Kohat Aman Shah Afridi, Orakzai Agency Feroze Khan and coordination secretary for central Kurram Agency Mohammad Shah alleged that the board had appointed its blue-eyed teachers from settled areas only as invigilators and superintendents.

They demanded of the education minister to end discrimination against them.

Meanwhile, district police officer Javed Iqbal ordered demolition of the wall between the Kohat Plaza and police driving school on the demand of local traders.

The tehsil nazim and traders had urged the DPO for removal of the wall for facilitating easy access of people to Kotwali mosque situated in the main bazaar, a police statement said. Mr Iqbal announced the decision while chairing a meeting of the business community, which was also attended by tehsil nazim Malik Taimoor.
