QUETTA: The Baloch­istan Assembly has constituted a house committee to probe allegations of the tre­asury and opposition me­­­mbers about recruitment in the Services and General Administration Depart­ment (S&GAD) through draws instead of following the rules and regulations.

Presiding over the asse­mbly session on Monday, Speaker Raheela Durrani announced the formation of the probe committee. Adviser to the Chief Min­ister on Information and Law and Parliamentary Af­­f­­airs Sardar Raza Muham­mad Barrech will head the committee while S&GAD Minister Nawab Muham­mad Khan Shahwani is among its members.

In her ruling, Ms Durrani directed the committee to probe the matter in detail and submit its report within one week.

The members who spoke on the issue urged that all appointments made through draws be cancelled and asked for fresh recruitment under rules and regulations in a transparent manner.

Assuring the house that an inquiry would be conducted into the matter, Mr Shahwani said he was not aware a draw system was adopted for recruitment in his department.

However, the issue was raised by Asim Kurd claiming that he was personally informed by the services and general administration secretary regarding the recruitment process.

The assembly was informed that 90 people were recruited from Quetta alone and other areas were discriminated against. The members insisted that all parts of the province should be considered in the recruitment process.

Mr Barrech suggested that instead of adopting a long process to form a probe committee, the matter should be resolved in the assembly or with the chief minister.

Earlier, the house agreed to retain the ban on all contractors who had levelled allegations against the members of the assembly.
