Explosives, arms recovered in Charsadda

CHARSADDA: The Charsadda police on Monday seized explosives and huge cache of arms dumped in a drum and a plastic canister along an under construction road here.

The city police, on a tip off, rushed to the spot and recovered nine hand grenades, 10 rocket shells, 38 grenade launchers, three IED devices, prima card, receivers used in bombs and other material. Officials said the recovery was made along the under construction Takhbhai road.

The police had called bomb disposal unit personnel and cordoned off the area during the action.

DPO Suhail Khan told Dawn that the material was recovered from a drum and a plastic can. He said miscreants failed to find space for carrying out sabotage activities owing to police’s alertness. He said every attempt of miscreants would be frustrated through such timely actions. He said the lives and properties of public would be protected at all cost.

Meanwhile, the legal fraternity held on Monday a protest rally against the target killing of senior lawyer Mohammad Jan Gigyani.

The lawyers warned of coming onto the roads if the killers of their colleague were not arrested within 10 days. The rally started from Bar Room and culminated at Shabqaddar Chowk after passing through various roads. The protesters were holding placards and banners written with their demands. Members of civil society also joined the lawyers’ protest.
