Girl’s death in bonfire: Case against officials of private college
OKARA: The mother of a girl who died of burns she suffered from a bonfire at her college got a case registered under Section 320 of the PPC against the principal, director, deputy director and five other employees of the college.
On Jan 21, Abida suffered burn injures from a bonfire during a function at her college. She was admitted to the CMH Okara Cantt where she died on Feb 4.
Her mother Haleema Bibi of village 23/2L alleged that during the bonfire petrol was sprinkled around carelessly. When the workers were putting out the fire, it spread around due to the petrol. Eight girls were injured, including Abida.
Haleema got a case registered against college Principal Hamid Iqbal and others, including director and deputy director of the Punjab colleges, at Okara Saddar police station.
SUICIDE ATTEMPT: A prisoner was booked for trying to commit suicide in the jail.
Afzaal Ahmad of Ziauddin Colony, Deepalpur was imprisoned in the district jail on charges of theft. On Saturday night, he attempted suicide with a blade and ended up injuring himself severely.
The guard on duty overpowered him, snatched the blade from his hands and rushed him to the jail hospital. A medico-legal certificate was issued by the jail medical superintendent.
A case was registered under Section 325 of the PPC on the report of the jail deputy superintendent at the Saddar police station.
SHOP ATTACKED: A sweet shop was assaulted by 10 armed men, looted and its workers beaten and injured.
On Saturday night, 10 armed men, identified as Abdul Wajeed, Ghazi Waheed, Farooq Ahmad, Sajjadul Farooq, Mushtaq Ahmad and their five accomplices, entered Hameed Sweet Shop in the centre of the city.
They looted Rs350,000 from the cash counter at gunpoint and on resistance beat up and injured workers Mannan, Haris and Abdur Rehman.
A Division police registered a case.
