Degrading environment

THE Sindh Building Control Authority’s (SBCA) claim that it approves building plans in accordance with the law is not only incorrect, but also shows their irresponsible attitude toward many of the problems that Karachiites face.

One such major problem is environmental degradation, which is turning peaceful and clean residential areas into dirty commercial hubs.

Block two of PECHS is one such area. A once peaceful neighbourhood, not only have markets been constructed, but a number of residences converted into shops, and a high-rise is also under construction nearby. Trucks parked in front of the houses litter the area, adding to increased pollution and waste in the neighbourhood as well as stress and inconvenience for the residents.

I request the honourable Sindh High Court chief justice, and the high court judge currently heading a commission on environmental degradation in Sindh to take immediate notice and hold the SBCA accountable for causing anguish to an entire neighbourhood and wrecking the peace of mind of its residents.
