Swat snow festival from tomorrow

PESHAWAR: The Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (TCKP) and the Swat district administration are jointly organising a three-day snow festival in the scenic tourist resort of Malam Jabba from Friday.

Speaking at a meeting here on Wednesday, TCKP Managing Director Mushtaq Ahmed Khan said that organising the Swat Snow Festival was aimed at bringing the serene spots, including Malam Jabba, Madyan, Bahrain and elsewhere in the valley, back to life and attracting tourists to these destinations.

“Skiing, paragliding, tobogganing, play-land, music show, and setting up food and handicraft stalls are main features so the visitors will fully enjoy the festival,” the TCKP official told the meeting.

Secretary sports and tourism Mohammad Tariq, general manager administration Sajjad Hameed, senior general manager Hayat Ali Shah and others also attended the meeting.

Tobogganing is being organised for the first time at the event. It is a simple sled and a traditional form of transport. In modern times, it is used on snow to carry one or more people (often children) down a hill or other slope for recreation.

According to the organisers, stalls of local cuisines, handcraft, traditional dresses would be established to showcase culture of the province.

The TCKP is providing recreational and tourism opportunities to people to ward off menace of terrorism and militancy and present soft image of the province to the world.
