Fake power bills issued to shrine, says Sindh’s Auqaf department

DADU: The Auqaf department of the government of Sindh has rejected the claim of the Ministry of Water and Power that the administration of the Dargah Sehwan Sharif owes Hesco millions of rupees against electricity bills.

Talking to Dawn, Auqaf department’s chief administrator Mushtaq Ahmed Soomro accused the power utility of issuing fake bills to the shrine.

He claimed that when construction work at the shrine was under way its administration had been paying electricity bills regularly. But after the construction work was closed the electricity meters installed by Hesco had not been working and the power utility had been issuing inflated bills to the shrine.

He said that despite various attempts Hesco officials were not ready to resolve the issue.

He said the shrine administration had paid Rs6 million against its outstanding power dues.

Mr Soomro claimed that the statement of the ministry about the electricity dues against the shrine was not based on facts.
