SHANGLA: The anti-polio campaign will start in 23 union councils of Shangla on Monday (tomorrow).

The inaugural ceremony of the three-day campaign was held here at Alpuri where deputy commissioner Abdul Kabir Khan administered polio vaccine to a child. Local EPI coordinator Dr Wajid Ali, DHO Dr Shafiul Mulk and other officials were also present on the occasion.

The DC said that people should cooperate with the polio teams in their respective areas.

Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner has issued a notification, stopping the operation of chairlifts in the district and movement of boats in the Indus River during the anti-polio campaign.

HARASSMENT: Special assistant to the chief minister for tourism, Haji Abdul Munim, on Saturday condemned harassment of innocent Pakhtuns in Punjab.

Speaking at the parents’ day function at a private school in Puran, he said that the Punjab government wanted a civil war in the country by harassing innocent Pakhtuns in the wake of terrorism incidents.

He said that the Punjab police had failed to differentiate between terrorists and innocent people.

He alleged that Pakhtun labourers were being subjected to racial treatment in Punjab. He asked the federal and Punjab governments to stop harassment of Pakhtuns.
