‘Data Darbar security pattern to be replicated at Qalandar’s shrine’

DADU: The eight-member investigation team headed by Jamshoro Deputy Commissioner Munawwar Mahesar on Saturday visited the Lal Shahbaz Qalandar shrine in Sehwan and inspected it from the security point of view. The team, along with the bomb disposal squad, examined the spot in the dhamal (mystic dance) court where a suicide bomber had blown himself up and left close to 90 people dead and many others wounded on Feb 16.

DIG (establishment) Amin Yousufzai, Hyderabad DIG Khadim Hussain Rind and SSPs Amin Abbas Shah, Tanvir Alam Odho, Mohammed Younus, Shabbir Ahmed Sethar and Dr Sami Malik are the other members of the team.

The team checked the CCTV cameras and deployment of security personnel at and around the shrine and expressed satisfaction over the arrangements made after the carnage.

It noted that only two of the eight gates of the shrine were opened to public to ensure proper checking of everyone entering it. DIG Yousufzai told reporters that on a directive of Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, the team visited the shrine of Data Ganj Bakhsh (Data Darbar) in Lahore to see the pattern of security environment there and replicate it at the Qalandar shrine. DIG Rind told reporters that police had made no arrests in Sehwan in connection with the suicide attack but Rangers had picked up some people to reach the culprits. He said Rangers could tell about the arrests and any progress made so far in their investigation.

“We have also made progress but it is premature to disclose anything at this stage,” he added. However, he added, police would complete its investigation soon and make facts known to the general public.

He said more walk-through gates and CCTV cameras were being installed at the shrine.
