Reforms in driving licence system being planned

KARACHI: Police authorities are contemplating to introduce centralised driving licence system in Sindh, as all the existing driving licence branches will be brought under the control of one DIG Driving Licences (DIG DL), while mobile teams will be dispatched to important locations, particularly in Karachi, to issue learners’ licences to people.

These decisions were taken in a meeting chaired by Inspector General of Police A.D. Khowaja at his office on Thursday.

The police chief issued directions to officials concerned to prepare the recommendations at the earliest to bring all the existing branches under the DIG DL.

One of the participants in the meeting told Dawn that the mobile teams would hopefully start functioning from next month. So far, according to the DIG, 3,650 people have completed ‘online registration’ for getting licence.
