Colleague’s alleged corruption: Doctors urge ACE to order fresh probe

LAHORE: The protesting doctors on Thursday called on Anti-Corruption Establishment Director General retired Brig Muzaffar Ali Ranjha and asked him to re-investigate the alleged corruption of their colleague in Services Hospital.

The doctors said they would end their protest if their demand was met.

The ACE had initiated action against 16 people including Dr Atif Majid for their alleged involvement in corruption of millions of rupees in the Services Hospital, Lahore.

According to an ACE spokesman, the protesting doctors had assured the commission that they would end their protest. He said the doctors said they had no issue with the investigation of other 15 suspects but they had concerns over Dr Majid’s matter. They demanded Dr Majid’s re-investigation by the ACE.

The spokesman said the doctors were asked to file an application with the ACE chief and the health secretary for re-investigation.

The ACE had registered a case against the 16 suspects after completing an inquiry in one year.

Earlier, the ACE chief had claimed that he would not hold dialogue with anyone on this matter as it was not a political issue and it would arrest Dr Majid and others.

The young doctors had thwarted the ACE bid to arrest Dr Majid a few days ago. Later, to put more pressure on the government, the doctors started observing strike in hospitals in the province.
