Man killed, cousin injured in accident

LAHORE: A man was killed while his cousin injured in an accident in Baghbanpura on Wednesday.

Police said Haroon, 28, and his cousin Ahsan were on their way by a motorcycle when a speeding mini-truck hit them near Shalamar Gardens. They fell on the road and suffered critical injuries. The truck driver after leaving the vehicle on the road fled.

The injured were shifted to Mayo Hospital where Haroon succumbed to his injuries while Ahsan was said to be critical.

Baghbanpura police shifted the body to morgue for autopsy and registered a case against the unidentified driver and impounded the vehicle.

ARRESTED: As many as 225 members of 97 robber gangs were arrested from various areas of the city in January, claimed a police spokesman on Wednesday.

Police also recovered valuables worth Rs15 million.

He claimed that DIG (operations) Dr Haider Ashraf directed all the divisional SPs to implement National Action Plan (NAP) and arrest those people involved in unlawful activities.The police also arrested 126 proclaimed offenders and 1,003 court absconders and registered 483 cases against as many people for having illicit weapons. Police also recovered one kalashnikov, 22 rifles, 21 guns, 429 revolvers and pistols, three daggers and 2,501 bullets from their custody.

He said police arrested 871 drug dealers and registered 868 cases against them besides recovering 4.362-kg heroin, 321 kilo hashish, 1.27-kg opium and 10,073 bottles of liquor from their custody.

Police also arrested 480 suspected gamblers and registered 127 cases.
