CSS exams in Urdu

THE recent Lahore High Court order to the Federal Public Service Commission to take CSS examinations in Urdu has created confusion among the aspirants. The CSS is the leading competitive examination.

Pakistan inherited this bureaucratic examination system from the British. Thus, the use of English as a medium has been mandatory since its inception.

If the government wants to change the official language, then there is a need to bring the change from the bottom.

It should be made sure that Urdu is the medium of instruction in schools, colleges and universities, and only then it can become the language of our CSS examinations. This abrupt sentimental decision may put the future of Pakistan at stake in this globalised world.

IT was shocking to know that the Lahore High Court, without examining the existing educational system, has ordered the Federal Service Public Commission to conduct CSS examinations in Urdu.

It will be extremely difficult for CSS candidates, who graduated using English and other regional languages as the medium, to write in Urdu. This will be difficult especially while attempting scientific subjects in Urdu, which lacks scientific terminologies.

I request the court to review its verdict.
