MUZAFFARABAD: A man was killed in ‘unprovoked’ Indian firing from across the Line of Control in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Tuesday, officials said.

Raja Ashfaq, 25, was working in his fields near Tain Mohra village of Khuiratta sector in Kotli district when he became a victim of small arms firing from across the heavily militarised dividing line.

“A bullet hit him in the belly. He was taken to the District Headquarters Hos­pi­tal, Kotli, where he died,” an AJK government official told Dawn from Kotli.

The Inter-Services Public Relations confirmed the incident and said that Pakistani troops effectively responded to India’s unprovoked firing.

“Another innocent life lost to Indian irresponsible attitude,” ISPR chief Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor said in a tweet.

On Friday, a woman was injured in Indian shelling in Janjot Bahadur village of Khuiratta sector.
