SMU renamed strategic reforms unit

LAHORE: The chief minister has turned his Special Monitoring Unit on Law and Order into Strategic Reforms Unit (SRU), appointing Mr Salman Sufi as its first director general.

Officials said while carrying on the implementation of the projects the SMU had initiated, the SRU will introduce comprehensive strategies, devise policy recommendations and lay out long-term implementation mechanisms for the provincial departments, working in close collaboration with them.

In the light of this increased scope of work, the SRU will have independent legal and IT wings. The IT wing of SRU will help the unit incorporate technological interventions in their reforms. The legal wing will evaluate all laws pertaining to the government and suggest strategic amendments considering that the existing laws become redundant and outdated due to the evolving practices.
