‘Killers’ of cop killed in encounter

LAHORE: The CIA police claimed on Monday to have killed in an encounter in Iqbal Town two suspected robbers involved in the killing of a constable and injuring an assistant sub-inspector.

According to a news release, a police party was on patrol when they received information that two unidentified persons had snatched a motorcycle from a citizen in Iqbal Town.

The police team led by SI Muhammad Akram set up pickets near Multan Chungi and Sabzi Mandi and started checking vehicles. After a while the police team signaled two motorcyclists to stop, but they opened fire which was returned.

The suspects fled towards Sabzi Mandi, but the police continued chasing them and fired at them near Dungi Ground of Mehran Block. Consequently, the suspects fell on the ground after bullets hit them. They were shifted to hospital where doctors pronounced them dead.

Police recovered weapons from nearby the bodies of suspects identified later as Muhammad Bilal of Kasur and Muhammad Javed of Sanda Kalan.

CIA SP Tariq Mastoi said the initial investigation showed that the suspected robbers were involved in the killing of constable Imran Sarwar at Sunday Bazaar in Iqbal Town’s Moon Market in 2015.

He said the suspects had also injured ASI Asif Mangat on resistance in 2011 in Sheikhupura’s Factory Area during a shootout.

He said the suspects were involved in at least 50 robbery cases registered against them in different areas of the city.
