PML-N leaders released
FAISALABAD, Dec 23: Former PML-N MNA Chaudhry Sher Ali and a union council Nazim, Khwaja Ijaz Ahmad, were released from the local district jail on Tuesday.
However, the detention of three other PML-N leaders, including ex-MNA Mian Abdul Mannan, was extended for another two months.
Police had arrested five PML-N leaders on Nov 20 for delivering provocative speeches against the government during a public meeting held at the Clock Tower Intersection in connection with the PML-N campaign against the arrest of party chief Javed Hashmi.
The Kotwali police had booked Sher Ali, Mian Abdul Mannan, his son Mian Irfan, UC Nazim Khwaja Ijaz Ahmad and Khalid Saeed Gill under 16-MPO. The police also nominated over a dozen other politicians in the case, but most of them succeeded in getting bail from court.
The arrested politicians were sent to jail, but the judicial magistrate granted them bail after four days of their arrest.
The Home Department issued their one-month detention orders and directed the jail authorities not to release them. These politicians approached the Lahore High Court against their arrest, and the court asked the Home Department to listen to their complaint.
On Tuesday, the home secretary issued fresh orders for the confinement of Mian Abdul Mannan, his son Mian Irfan and Khalid Saeed for another two months.
