Plea against mayor disposed of

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court chief justice on Monday disposed of a petition challenging eligibility of Lahore mayor retired Col Mubashir Javed, who got elected to the office unopposed.

Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah observed in the order that the petitioner should first agitate the matter before the election tribunal.

It was contended in the petition that Mr Javed had been in government service and could not contest any election before a period of two years after leaving the job.

The petitioner said the mayor served as chief warden in civil defence department and member of Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB).

An assistant advocate general opposed the petition saying the petitioner did not provide the court with any documentary evidence to substantiate his allegations.

He also objected to the maintainability of the petition before the court.

After hearing both sides, the chief justice disposed of the petition.
