Japanese engineer dies from fatal fall

DERA GHAZI KHAN/MULTAN: A Japanese engineer was found dead early on Thursday at a hotel in Multan he was staying in with his other colleagues. Police said a note on him showed the engineer had jumped off to death from the third floor of the hotel late on Wednesday.

City Police Officer Ahsan Younas said the engineer, identified as Okumura Katsumi, 33, went to the roof of the hotel on Tariq Road at about 3am and was found dead at 6am when the police checked the presence of engineers.

A note by the deceased in Japanese found on him confirmed he had ended his life. The note reads: “The full moon night is very beautiful. I am sorry but perhaps I am here for this purpose (to commit suicide).”

More than one dozen Japanese engineers are working with TAISEI Company on a road construction and installation of steel bridges on National Highway-70 in the tribal areas of Dera Ghazi Khan.

They stay in Multan and commute from the hotel to the construction site every day because of security reasons.

Political Assistant to Tribal Area Babar Khan confirmed the death of the Japanese engineer and said they were sad over the death of a guest engineer.

A team from the Japanese Embassy also arrived in Multan, while a first information report was lodged with Cantonment Police.
