Illegal taxi stands, cabins removed in Jamrud

LANDI KOTAL: The political administration in Jamrud removed all illegal taxi stands and cabins during an anti-encroachment operation in the main bazaar here on Tuesday.

Political tehsildar Shakeel Burki said that illegal taxi stands, cabins and kiosks on both sides of the main road were a hindrance in flow of traffic. He said the administration had received a number of complaints about encroachments in the bazaar which inconvenienced the general public.

Mr Burki said all the pushcarts and kiosks were removed and cabins demolished as these were constructed without permission of local administration. The taxi stands have also been shifted outside the market, he added.

Though officials said prior notices were served on all the shopkeepers and transporters to voluntarily remove their illegal structures and shift the taxi stands, a taxi stand manager Qalam Khan told Dawn that they were not given any notice or warning by the administration.

He said Ghundi taxi stand was established in early 70s with tacit approval of the political administration but was now uprooted without any valid reason.
