Karachi Queens clinch SSB Quaid-e-Azam Day Softball title

KARACHI: Karachi Queens overpowered Karachi Pearls by seven runs to clinch the SSB Quaid-e-Azam Day Women Softball Festival title here at Trinity Girls School and College ground.

The tournament was organised by the Sindh Softball Association (SSA) in collaboration with the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Sindh.

In the final, Karachi Queens scored 13 runs in five innings against Karachi Pearls’ six runs in five innings. Sheril, Mursaleen, Aliza, Bismah and Maliha scored two runs each for the winning side. Babita, Bushra and Alina scored two runs each for the losing side.

Chairman Sindh Softball Association (SSA) and Deputy Commissioner Malir, Mohammad Ali Shah was the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony and backed the participation of women in sports in his speech on the occasion.

“The only thing our women need is proper infrastructure to groom and polish their talent and a platform to showcase their skills. If these two basic things are made available for our female players, then I believe there is nothing which could stop them from performing well at national and international level in sports,” he said.

Principal Trinity College Irene Pearl, Softball Federation of Pakistan secretary Asif Azeem, SSA secretary Zeeshan Merchant, Mohammad Nasir, Imran Zaman, Murad Hussain, S.M. Ishaq, Fraz Ijaz and Naheed Liaquat were also present on the occasion.
