KARAK: The livestock department has started vaccinating cattle in the weekly fares and in villages after reports emerged of ailments, including the deadly Congo virus, hitting animals in various parts of the district.

Sources in the livestock department told Dawn here on Friday that they had received numerous complaints from farmers of different parts regarding different kinds of diseases, including the deadly Congo virus, hitting their cattle.

Following the complaints, they said the livestock officials visited the different areas, including Isak Chountra, Sarat Khel, Ghundi Mir Khan Khel, Nari Panos and Sorati Kala to get firsthand information about the diseases.

The sources said that after a thorough survey of the diseases the department decided to start a special fumigation and vaccination campaign in the areas.

The sources claimed the people were also given medicines and were told how to use them when their animals fell ill.

They added that the livestock department had arranged camps in weekly fares and in villages for vaccination of cattle.

SHORTAGE OF STAFF: Elders have demanded of the authorities to meet the shortage of teachers and provide other facilities in the government degree college, Latamber, as students are forced to seek admission in colleges away from their homes.

The demand was made at a meeting on Friday with Nadir Khan Khattak in the chair.

The participants complained that the college was established in 2001, but it was still short of staff and other facilities like drinking water and laboratory equipments.

They regretted that there was no water available in the washrooms to be used by students. They said the government should provide staff and laboratory equipments to the college on an urgent basis.
