Ejaz moves LHC against CM for ‘violating oath’

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Ejaz Chaudhry has filed a petition before the Lahore High Court seeking disqualification of chief minister Shahbaz Sharif for misusing power and violating his oath and court orders.

Speaking at a news conference at the PTI chairman’s secretariat on Saturday, Mr Ejaz said he had stated in his petition that Shahbaz had preferred his personal interests over national interests in violation of Article 162-1-F. He said the Lahore High Court in 2006 had directed that no sugar mill in Punjab, especially in south Punjab, could be expanded. However, he said, the Punjab government notified that the sugar mills could be relocated, which was later suspended by the court.

Mr Ejaz added that the Sharif family had relocated its sugar mills (Chaudhry Sugar Mills and Ittefaq Sugar Mills) in south Punjab and the JDW Sugar Mills had approached the court which gave a verdict that the relocation of the mills was illegal and unlawful.
