Karak traders protest choked drains

KARAK: Traders of Teri Bazaar here on Saturday demonstrated against the Banda Daud Shah Tehsil Municipal Administration over its failure to open choked drains and ensure cleanliness.

The protesting traders criticised the indifferent attitude of the municipal administration, saying the chief municipal officer was not taking interest in the public welfare matters.

They complained that there had been no cleanliness activity in the Teri city for several months, but staff of the TMA had been getting salary regularly.

They claimed that due to choked drains foul smell had engulfed the entire city, saying they had asked the TMO several times about carrying out cleanliness of the city, but he paid no attention.

They set a 48-hour deadline for the TMA to launch cleanliness drive in the city, otherwise they would besiege the offices of the civic body.

Meanwhile, an elderly woman was killed when a motorcyclist hit her near Chokara on Saturday.

Police said the victim, identified as mother of Maulana Waliullah of Chokara, was crossing the road when the motorcycle hit her.

She suffered critical injuries and was shifted to district headquarters hospital, Karak where the doctors referred her to Peshawar. However, she succumbed to her injuries on the way.
