Section 144 in Pindi tomorrow

RAWALPINDI: The district administration has enforced section 144 in the Rawalpindi district, prohibiting pillion riding and carrying arms and ammunition, as well as parking vehicles along the traditional Eid Miladun Nabi route and the printing and distribution of material containing hate speech for a day on Dec 12.

The pillion riding ban does not apply to the elderly, women, children and people requiring medical attention.

The City District Government Rawalpindi (CDGR) has prepared a comprehensive plan to celebrate Eid Miladun Nabi in the city, and asked local police to make security arrangements for the milad procession within two days. A senior CDGR official told Dawn viewing the procession from rooftops on the traditional route is also banned.

Heavy traffic will not be allowed on the procession route before Dec 12, and government hospitals will remain on ‘red alert’.

A main control room will be set up at the District Coordination Office and four relief camps will be established at Committee Chowk, Fawara Chowk, Shah Nazar Pul and Jamia Masjid Road.

A meeting to review security arrangements, attended by District Coordination Officer Talat Mehmood Gondal, City Police Officer Israr Abbasi, and other senior officials was also held.

Mr Abbasi said at the meeting that the procession will not be allowed to change the traditional route.

He said the police will also check all the sabeels set up along the route and the police deployed along the route have been directed not to allow any person to enter the area except from the allocated entrances.
