Evidence being collected from PK-661 crash site

ABBOTTABAD: A 10-member special investigation team, headed by Group Capt Sultan and comprising high-ranking PAF and other officials, spent the second day on Friday at the site of the PIA plane crash near Havelian and remained busy in collecting evidence from the wreckage of the plane to find causes of the accident.

Havelian DSP Khursheed Tanoli told Dawn that the team had inspected the wreckage of the plane lying at the site.

He said the entire area of the plane crash site had been cordoned off by local police.

The DSP further said that police had recovered some belongings of passengers which included copies of identity cards of Junaid Jamshed and his wife, one wrist-watch, some gold ornaments, rings and papers. These are in the custody of the Havelian police.

The investigation team reportedly met some witnesses of Piplian, Mujahada and Batloni villages located nearest to the plane crash site.

According to police, the team members had told them that they were the only ones who would conduct the investigation into the crash and had been specially sent on the orders of the prime minister.

However, officials of PIA, Civil Aviation Authority and law enforcement agencies also continued their own investigations.
