AT holds rally for crops procurement policy

LARKANA: Awami Tahreek (AT) workers took out a rally here on Friday to condemn the Sindh government for not introducing an effective policy for procurement of paddy and other agriculture commodities.

Led by Advocate Sajid Mahisar, the protesters carrying banners and placards marched through various roads and held a demonstration outside the Jinnahbagh gate.

Speaking to them, he and several other activists including Ali Mohammed Wako, Azad Jaffery and Rahim Chandio alleged that those at the helm of affairs were deliberately destroying the agriculture sector by not fixing reasonable procurement rates for paddy, sugar cane and other crops.

It tantamount to usurping rights of peasants as they were already being fleeced by traders, who were selling them substandard seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and insecticides.

The AT activists also criticised the government for its inaction over the ongoing construction of a controversial reservoir for mine effluents in Thar and for going ahead with “the most controversial Zulfikarabad project”.

They claimed that the project was aimed at converting Sindhis into a minority within their own province.
