Raheel’s achievements

RETIRED Gen Raheel Sharif’s tenure will undoubtedly be remembered as a successful one. He resolved Karachi’s law and order situation, making it a comparatively peaceful city.

He also tried his best to eliminate terrorism throughout the country and achieved some success. This credit goes to him.

Although he wanted to do much more, there were some bottlenecks which prevented him from doing so.

For instance, he wanted to do away with corruption and terrorism funding, but the presence of powerful lobbies prevented this. Although the county’s law and order situation has improved, much more is still required.

Many issues that affect the common man are awaiting immediate settlement, such as reforming the justice system and tackling corruption.

Rule of law is necessary to overcome these continuing issues. The government is tackling some of the problems well, but it has not touched corruption, which is this country’s most significant issue.

I would like to offer my best wishes to the new army chief, who must continue his predecessor’s initiatives and deal with all our country’s issues amicably.
