NAB launches anti-graft campaign

LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau, Lahore, has launched a week-long awareness campaign in connection with the World Anti-Corruption Day.

The NAB displayed banners inscribed with anti-corruption slogans on different city roads. For the first time it also launched an SMS campaign ‘say no to corruption’.

During the week-long activities the bureau is holding seminars.

The Anti-Corruption Day is observed on Dec 9 (today).

The NAB has organised a seminar at Expo Center in which students would perform in a puppet show besides the promo of an anti-corruption drama serial ‘Dhundh’ will also be launched there.

The NAB, Lahore, has initiated formation of character building societies (CBSs) in different educational institutions.

According to a NAB official, some 12,000 CBSs have been formed in different educational institutions across the province. NAB Lahore Director General retired Maj Burhan Ali said the bureau had been carrying out action against corrupt elements.

He said although the NAB was facing problems but it had a resolve to check corruption.

He said the NAB had started a permanent awareness campaign in educational institutions and it was getting a very good feedback.

Opposition wants the NAB to actively perform its duties impartially. The PPP and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) often point finger at the performance of the NAB saying that it is working under the influence of the PML-N government. The NAB, however, denies it.
