Three of a family injured in acid attack

LAHORE: A couple and their daughter-in-law were injured in an acid attack in Mahmood Booti in Baghban-pura area on Wednesday.

Police said two armed men and a woman barged into the house and held up Sarwar, 50 and her daughter-in-law Shama, 35. The two women raised an alarm when intruders started sprinkling acid on them.

Boota, 55, the husband of Sarwar, who was feeding his pigeons on the roof, came down and grabbed one of the attackers who also fired at him, but he narrowly escaped.

Police said Boota fell on the ground when other suspect threw acid on him. Neighbours shifted all the three injured to Mayo Hospital.

Dr Nasrullah said one woman suffered 10 per cent burns on her belly and arms and the other woman 15pc burns on her arms, belly and legs while the man was discharged. He said both women were out of danger.

Injured Shama said a burqa-clad woman came there and asked: “Is this Saleem’s house”? She said the woman left the house quietly when she replied in the negative.

She said after a while two masked men barged into the house and one of them held her mother-in-law at pistol point and the other started abusing them. Upon resistance, she said one of the intruders started sprinkling acid on them.

She said both masked men also poured acid on her father-in-law when he came to their rescue.

Investigating Officer Ismail said complainant Boota had nominated four suspects — Fauzia, Ihsaan, Danish and Shafiq — in the case.

He said the complainant alleged that suspects wanted to take revenge because his son had murdered his wife in 2012 and was serving 25 years jail term.
