Seven killed on road in Jamrud

LANDI KOTAL: Seven people, including three children, were killed and five others injured in a road accident in Jamrud on Tuesday.

Khasadar officials said that a van and car collided with an Afghanistan-bound trailer loaded with cement on Peshawar-Torkham highway near Teddi Bazaar.

Five people, including three children, died on the spot while two more succumbed to their injuries in a hospital. Officials said that the accident took place due to speeding.

The deceased belonged to two families of Jamrud and they were identified as Gul Shad, Abdur Raziq, Aamir Khan, Abdur Rehman, Mohammad Asim, Ehsanullah and Abid. The local people had long been demanding deployment of Khasadar and Levies personnel on several points on the highway to check speeding.

Meanwhile, scores of students from various educational institutions in Jamrud held a protest demonstration against the suspension of scholarship of tribal students by the Fata Secretariat.

Holding placards and banners inscribed with slogans in support of their demand, the students gathered near the Jamrud Press Club and chanted slogans against the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor, additional chief secretary, Fata, and Khyber Agency political agent for their failure to release the scholarship as demanded by thousands of students across Fata.
