Traders oppose professional tax

PESHAWAR: The business community has expressed concerns over issuance of notices to traders, especially tailors, regarding payment of Rs15,000 professional tax.

The traders urged the provincial government to withdraw the decision.

Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Haji Mohammad Afzal while presiding over a joint meeting of SCCI and representatives of different organisations of traders here on Tuesday, asked the government to avoid creating problems for the business community as it had already suffered owing to terrorism during the past over one decade.

According to a statement, a six-member committee was formed in the meeting to prepare recommendations for presenting the same to the provincial government. A joint committee of the chamber and other bodies of traders would hold meeting with officials of the excise and taxation department to sort out the issue at the earliest.
