Neglected park

THE park situated at ST-4, (Behind Dolmen Court) Block-15, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Karachi, is in a sorry state of disrepair. It was inaugurated by the then town Nazim on Aug 18, 2009.

The rides are broken and portray a picture of twisted iron scrap. Grass is fast disappearing from the park and is found in small patches. Heaps of garbage are strewn at various places showing that the park has not been looked after by anyone for ages. The walking track is being decimated at an accelerated pace. The park also serves as dumping ground for barriers and other stuff.

Compounding the misery of the unfortunate souls who visit the park is the fact that the family of the caretaker resides in the park. The stench of the wood which is burned by them ensures that one area of the park remains out of bound for the people. Additionally, whatever plants and trees are left in the park are being used as firewood by the family residing there. The park remains locked and opens at around 07am, which ensures that it remains out of bound for people who have an educational institution/office to attend.
