Raheel’s legacy

ALL conjectures, dissensions and predictions have gone into ashes with retired Gen Raheel Sharif’s farewell. The high point of his tenure was the launch of Operation Zarb-i-Azb.

Bringing peace to Karachi was another feather in Mr Raheel’s cap. It’s because of him that Karachi once again became the city of lights. The dominance of the MQM is no more, and violence has gone down.

Influential people involved in wrongdoings are now underground, hiding from the Rangers. The ratio of extortion, street crimes and targeted killings has gone down.

Following the proverb, ‘charity begins at home’, he started the accountability with his own institution. The dismissal of 12 army officers for corruption is an example for other public sector departments. The civilian government must learn a lesson from this and start accountability of its corrupt officials.
