Motorbike ambulance

APROPOS the article ‘Motorbike ambulance service’ (Nov 20). The retort that best comes to mind: “Qu’ils mangent de la brioche.” French peasants, who could not afford to eat bread, were advised by the empress to eat cake. It seems the Punjab chief minister is now pursuing matters in the same vein.

The people are suffering for want of basic necessities and the chief minister is bent upon offering facilities which are of a second priority. The public funds that will be spent on the motorbike ambulance scheme will be a waste of the exchequer.

The government instead should concentrate on improving education in the public sector. Affordable and quality education should be provided to the people to increase the literacy rate. Furthermore, medical facilities at government hospitals should be reformed. Last but not least, clean drinking water is scarce. The government should provide clean drinking water at every doorstep. Electricity is the main issue which has ruined the country’s economy.

The government should strive to finish the projects in hand rather than start new ones and leaving old ones unfinished.
